I've started school again. I've been slowly working on a degree in Social Media Marketing & Global Business and after needing to take some extra time off for personal life reasons, I've decided it was time to go back.
This semester I'll be taking an International Short Story course with 37 short stories to read, as well as a Biology of Social Issues course. Over all the workload shouldn't be horrible. There will be tons of reading that's for sure, but not nothing too horrible.
The biology course sounds interesting. The purpose of the class is to teach non-science majors the fundamentals of science so that when approached with a situation to participate in social issue discussions, the person has an understanding of science in which to base their arguement on. The couse will cover everything from basic scientific studies such as cellular biology, to logical fallacies to avoid/identify when forming an arguement, to understanding how drug companies use double blind studies, controlled experiments, and placebos to test the effectiveness of their drug/product.
While I'm not wild about a science class, it does sound interesting and will be nice to have a re-fresher to basic science that I've not had to think about for many years.
The Short stories class sounds fun. Its all about examining how the short story is written, what its intended to do, and what the effect of reading short stories is to each of us. While there is a lot of reading, the more daunting aspect of the work will be writing the reflections on each story and participating in online discussions about them. Overall, it may be a busy semester, especially with trying to balance work responsibilities, and house work, but I'm up for the challenge and will make it work.
I've been wanting to post a blog about a great UI article i read, but unfortunately, typing is very painful and difficult.
In an attempt to keep this brief—i've been helping a friend remodel her house, and have overexerted myself. I've been lifting more, using hammers more, and operating saws, screwdrivers, etc more than typical, and have over-exhausted my tendons and ligaments in my right wrist. To top it all off, I've re-exacerbated the slowly worsening carpel-tunnel that has been developing over the years. So now as the photo shows, I'm stuck in this fucking brace for two weeks, under strict orders (and legitimate inability) to not life nor use the wrist. Its really a problem. I do everything with this wrist, eat, write, draw, use a mouse....everything! No fun.
So just as soon as this is done, i'll get that post out because its really a fascinating topic. i talk about design, work, and gaming all in the same post... its really something—or in my head it is.
